Memories and persona
Each friend keeps its own memories of time with you. They live in your private profile, stored on your computer, never on the server, and sent only to the AI connection you choose when your friend thinks.
What friends remember
Section titled “What friends remember”Friends decide for themselves what to remember from your private conversations: a preference, a rule you gave them, an event, a place, something they learned, or how they feel about someone. Each memory is one sentence in the friend’s own words, and each shows where it came from:
- You told me: you said it yourself.
- I noticed: the friend picked it up itself, from what was going on around it.
- From our time in …: brought over from another world with the friend (see Friends).
Things you tell a friend yourself, such as “don’t use my diamonds”, are kept near the front of what it remembers when it plans. Only your private conversations with your own friend, and its own remarks to you, can add memories. Public chat and other players’ messages never do.
Your friend keeps recent chat word for word. Older chat is summarised in the background, so it stays short.
The Memories page
Section titled “The Memories page”Open Memories for a friend in the friends menu to see its memories, newest first. Each has its kind (Preference, Rule, Event, Place, Knowledge or Relationship), where it came from, and Forget, which asks you to Confirm.
The page says: “Kept only on this computer. Forgetting can’t take back what was already sent to an AI service or written to game logs.”
You can’t edit a memory’s text. To correct one, tell your friend: “no, my base is by the mountain”.
Forgetting
Section titled “Forgetting”Forget a memory on the Memories page, or ask your friend to forget something. If it isn’t sure which memory you mean, it asks.
Forgetting removes the memory and the conversation it came from, and the friend won’t simply learn it again from a summary or an old reply. If other lines of chat may still mention it, the page lists them as “May still mention something you had them forget”, each with its own Forget. Nothing else is deleted silently. Forgetting never changes items, jobs or anything on the server.
If chat history grows too long while something is held back like this, the page asks you to forget or release the lines at the top. Summarise again lets them be summarised; a summary that still states something forgotten is refused again.
Persona edits
Section titled “Persona edits”Changes to a friend’s description, speaking style, skin, chattiness or private notes apply straight away, even to a reply it is already working on. History and memories stay.
Stability
Section titled “Stability”Stability is how careful or experimental a friend is, from 0 to 100. It shapes style, not freedom: every friend has the same rights whatever its Stability.
| Range | Band |
|---|---|
| 80 to 100 | Steady: careful, sticks to safe ways |
| 50 to 79 | Spirited: tries new ideas |
| 20 to 49 | Volatile: improvises, may waste things or take risks while helping |
| 0 to 19 | Wild: reckless and eccentric, still trying to help |
New friends start at 85. You set the value in the friend’s settings, and the menu shows the current value and the range it usually drifts in, for example “Stability 85 (set to 85, usually 70-100)”.
Stability drifts with what a friend lives through and settles again during calm play. It usually stays within about 15 either side of what you set; strong experiences can take it a little further. Setting it again resets it at once. Forgetting a memory also undoes the drift that memory caused. Only the owner sets it.
Competence
Section titled “Competence”Coming
A Competence slider is planned: how well a friend plays, from a relaxed beginner to an expert. Like Stability, it will never change what a friend is allowed to do or give it free materials. It is not in the mod yet.
