Prices and spending
What your friends cost depends on the connection you choose. The mod never spends money by itself: if a connection fails, nothing moves to a paid one.
By connection
Section titled “By connection”| Connection | What a reply costs you |
|---|---|
| ChatGPT or Claude subscription | Nothing extra. Replies use your plan’s own usage limits. |
| Claude API, OpenAI API, OpenRouter, DeepSeek, Groq, xAI | Billed to your own account with that provider, per reply. |
| Ollama, LM Studio | Nothing: it runs on your own computer. |
| Custom endpoint | Whatever that service charges. |
Who pays when someone else talks to your friend: their words go through your connection. See Trust and multiplayer.
The price line
Section titled “The price line”For the Claude API and the OpenAI API, the AI connection screen shows an estimate under the model, for example “About $0.0006 a reply (around 1,700 replies per $1)”. It uses the provider’s published standard prices, read from their pricing pages on 17 October 2026, and a typical reply of about 4,000 tokens in and 400 tokens out. That size is an estimate, still to be measured in real play.
| Model | About per reply | Replies per $1 |
|---|---|---|
| Claude Haiku 5.5 (Claude API default) | $0.0006 | about 1,700 |
| Claude Sonnet 5.5 | $0.012 | about 83 |
| Claude Opus 5.5 | $0.024 | about 42 |
| Claude Fable 5.1 | $0.06 | about 17 |
| GPT-6 Luna (OpenAI API default) | $0.0006 | about 1,700 |
| GPT-6.1 Sol | $0.012 | about 83 |
| GPT-6 Astra | $0.06 | about 17 |
A model that isn’t in this list shows no price rather than a guess. Other key routes show no price line yet; check the provider’s own pricing.
Background summaries of older chat, remarks your friends choose to make, and the quick call that decides who a spoken line was for also use your connection.
Voice through OpenRouter
Section titled “Voice through OpenRouter”The offline speech engine is free. If you choose OpenRouter as the speech engine, the Voice screen shows the transcription model’s price from OpenRouter, and each push-to-talk clip is paid from your OpenRouter account. See Talking and voice.

A running spending counter is planned, so you can see what replies have cost. See the Roadmap.
